Botanical Description: A stout under shrub 0.9-1.8m in height with herbaceous branches from the roots; leaves simple, sinuate-toothed, upper ones small, lower ones large, sometimes palmate 3-5 lobed, flowers numerous in axiallry racemes with the male flowers above and a few female below, fruit capsules 8-13mm long, obovoid, seeds ellipsoidal, smooth, mottled. Flowering and fruiting from October to March.

Modern Pharmacological Action: The plant roots have also shown to possess heapatoprotective and analgesic activity. One of the main constituents of the plant of Baliospermum montanum is flavanoids. The free flavanoids present in plant of Baliospermum montanum have been reported to have prohealing activity. A survey of literature revealed that the plant of Baliospermum montanum has not been scientifically investigated for its wound healing activity. Ethanolic showed significant antibacterial activity but found ineffective against fungal strain used in a study. The roots of B. montanum were evaluated for their anthelmintic activity against Pheretima posthuma and Ascardia galli as test worms. It also showed hepatoprotective activity.
