Botanical Description: It is an erect annual herb upto 60cm in height, leaves distichous, elliptic oblong or linear. Flowers yellowish greenish or whitish, axillary male flowers 1-3, female solitary. Capsules depressed globose, smooth, scarcely lobed, seeds trigonous amd longitudinally ribbed.
It is found throughout the hotter parts of India

Modern Pharmacological Action: The plant is known to possess antiviral, anti-inflammatory, hypoglycemic, hypocholesteremic, anti bacterial, antifungal and radioprotective activities. The extract of the plant is known to inhibit gastric carcinogenesis and HIV replication in vitro and ex vivo. The antioxidant activities of the methanolic extracts of Phyllanthus were also demonstrated.
