Botanical Description: An erect hairy annual herb grows up to 2 meters in height. Leaves simple, palmate, with 3-7 lobes, lobes serrate, hairy on both surfaces; flowers large, yellow with purple center; fruits hairy capsular; seeds many, grayish brown and kidney shaped and scented.

Modern Pharmacological Action: The petroleum ether and methanol extracts of leaves exhibited significant anti-inflammatory activities. The larvicidal activity of the roots of Hibiscus abelmoschus was also reported. Wound healing activity of the petroleum ether and methanol extracts of Abelmoschus were also reported.
