Botanical Description: A densely tufted, perrenial grass, with aromatic roots and rhizomes, leaves narrow, linear, erect, sheaths compressed, ligules reduced to a scarious rim, midrib slender, lateral nerves close, spikelets grey, green or purplish, sessiles spikelets linear lanceolate, glabrous, pedicelled spoikelets 2 flowered; fruits oblong, grains, slightly oblique at the apex.
