Botanical Description: A small or medium sized decidiuos tree. Leaves subsessile closely set along the branchlets. Flowers greenish yellow, in axillary bearing branches.
It is found throughout South India and other places.

Modern Pharmacological Action: Amla is anti-inflammatory, useful in irritability of bladder and in oedema. Amalaki is well known as a good anti oxidant having anti inflammatory as well as anti proliferative activity due to the presence of pyrogallol. Hence this drug is used against prostate enlargement.
