Botanical Description: A coarse perrenial with short stem and shallow root system; leaves simple, fleshy in rosettes, sessile often crowded with horny prickles on the margins, convex below, 45-60cm long, tapering to a blunt point, surface is plae green with irregular white blotches; flowers yellow or orange elongated spikes in racemes. Fruits loculicidal acspules. Flowering and fruiting from December to May.
It is found throughout India.

Modern Pharmacological Action: Clinical investigations suggest that Aloe Vera Gel preparations accelerate wound healing. Fibroblast activation by Aloe Vera Gel has been reported to increase both collagen and proteoglycan synthesis, thereby promoting tissue repair. The anti-inflammatory activity of Aloe Vera Gel has been revealed by a number of in vitro and in vivo studies. Aloe Vera Gel has been used for the treatment of radiation burns.
