Botanical Description: A slightly woody shrub with blunt quadrangular stems and branches; leaves usually simple, opposite, oblong or elliptic, coarsely and sharply serrate, flowers blue, many in long cylinderical thyrsus with a pair of acute bracts at eahc branching and a flower in the fork, fruit lobed, purple drupe somewhat succulent with one pyrene in each lobe. Flowering and fruiting from September to Febuary.
It is found throughout India.

Modern Pharmacological Action:The Ethanolic extract of the roots showed significant antinociceptive, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic activities on experimental animals. An extract showed wide range of activity against gram positive as well as gram negative bacterial strains.
