Natural foods like fruits and vegetables are the best way to supplement one’s diet for intake of essential vitamins, proteins, minerals and other nutrients required for growth of healthy, long and beautiful hair. Some such essential nutrients and their sources are:
Vitamin-A: Vitamin A is an anti-oxidant, which promotes healthy production of hair. Sweet Potatoes & Carrots are loaded with beta carotene, which gets converted into Vitamin-A, which promotes hair growth.
Omega-3: Omega-3 fatty acids nourish your hair follicles & promotes hair growth. They also provide shine & lustre to hair. Foods rich in Omega-3 are Fish, Egg yolks, Fish eggs (caviar), Walnuts and Milk.
Vitamin-E: This vitamin stimulates blood circulation in scalp which is important to keep your hair follicles productive. Vitamin-E rich foods are Almonds, Spinach, Avocado etc.
Amla Juice: Drink one tablespoon (15mL) Amla juice daily for better hair growth.
Proteins: Hair is made up of protein. Lack in protein causes brittle and damaged hairs. There are several protein-rich foods which help in healthy and strong hair like Soya bean or Soya products, Tofu, Green gram, Guava, Cashews, Almonds, Dairy products, etc.
Aloe: Peel Aloe vera and make juice of pulp by grinding it. Apply on scalp and keep it for half to one hour, wash your hair with herbal shampoo. It makes hair glossy and bouncy.
Curry leaves: Grind curry leaves. Keep it soaked overnight in sesame oil / coconut oil. Filter it next day and apply on scalp 2 to 3 times a week.
Herbal powder mix: Take Shikakai, Amla and Aritha powders in equal quantity & mix well. Add 4 to 5 drops of lemon juice and 2 to 3 drops of almond oil with appropriate amount of curd and make a paste. Apply on scalp and leave it for an hour, wash out with herbal shampoo.
Home-made hair oil: Take 2 tablespoon each of almond oil, coconut oil and sesame oil. Add half teaspoon of olive oil and castor oil. Then add half tea spoon of camphor powder and warm it slightly to dissolve the camphor. Allow to cool and fill it in a bottle. Apply it on your hair three times in a week.
Egg Mask Crack open two eggs, eliminate the yolk and apply the egg white mask to your hair. Leave it on for 15 minutes and then rinse-off.
Garlic: Boil 7 to 8 cloves of crushed garlic with olive oil and apply it to the roots of the hair -follicles. Repeat this thrice a week to notice the difference.
