Latin name: Glycyrrhiza glabra
Indian name: Yashtimadhu
Habitat: The drug is commercially cultivated on a large scale in Spain , Sicily and England . It grows in Russia and comes from Iran . It is also cultivated in Punjab and the sub-Himalayan tracts. It is exported India from Iran, Arabastan, Greece, Misra, Ceria, Afghanistan and Turkistan.
Useful in: It is also an anti-dyspeptic, carminative, laxative and antacid. It is not a strong purgative but it is given with other purgatives to help purgation. It is useful in abdominal pain due to pitta. It is also used in gastritis.
