Latin Name: Acorus calamus
Indian Name: Vacha, Vaj
Habitat: Calamus is native of Eastern Europe and is found wild in England. It is chiefly collected in Holland, North America, Most of the European countries and in central Asia. In India, it is cultivated, as well as found wild in Himalayas and also in Sikkim. In Himalayas, it is found upto an altitude of 2000 m.

Useful in: Acorus calamus has sedative and tranquilizing properties. In India the drug is also used in epilepsy and depression. Calamus is used as carminative, bitter stimulant and vermifuge. It's also help the tender GIT of infants.
